Meet Becki

I’m really excited to use my internship to explore how data across health systems and research can help us better anticipate support needs and access requirements within dentistry. I’ll be looking at how routinely collected data are captured, linked, and used across research and public services, alongside challenges such as interoperability, data quality, and continuity, and the opportunities this creates for anticipatory support and approaches within oral health services. My aim is to build experience and networks beyond my core role as a Dental Technician at NCIC, while developing a complementary systems-level lens to my current research, which explores how support needs are socially constructed, communicated, and legitimised within dental care interactions. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from my Newcastle University mentors, Dr Greig Taylor, Dr Sarah Sowden, and Dr Laura Woods, and I’m really looking forward to gaining invaluable insight into how their interdisciplinary teams use population and health data to shape understanding and inform practice.
