Alexander’s internship focus and aims

During my internship, I aim to develop my clinical academic network by working with research‑active physiotherapists across the UK, including colleagues from Sunderland University. My project explores how UK physiotherapists assess and manage arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI) following knee injury or surgery. Using a mixed‑methods approach, the study will map current assessment and treatment practices across NHS and private settings, identify barriers and examples of good practice, and explore patient experiences and preferences. Findings will be compared with current evidence to inform future research priorities, clinical guidelines, and physiotherapy training. I am looking forward to building a research‑active network and gain insight into colleagues’ research careers within clinical academia.
