Session Information
Meaningful public and patient engagement is the cornerstone of all good research. Research can only be effective if it involves the people, groups and communities who are affected by, or who have lived experience of, your area of research.
Recruitment of participants can sometimes be a challenge for researchers – where do we start? How do we reach the groups we want to talk to? How can we encourage them to get involved? How can we keep them involved?
This session aims to offer an overview of how a well-planned communication approach can help you to reach the people and groups you want to engage with.
It will offer an introduction to the key principles of effective communication, and offer tips on how to develop engaging materials and use various communication channels to reach your audiences – including examples of good (and not so good) practice.
Programme Information
It is open to staff and public contributors involved in health and care research, regardless of their role or the organisation they work for. The sessions will offer participants the opportunity to learn how to do PPIE and participation activities effectively within research.
There is no requirement to have any previous experience within PPIE. There are various training sessions available that are relevant to individual levels of PPIE and participation knowledge.
