Newcastle Health Research Partnership (NHIP) has joined forces with Creating Connections to run a pilot series of training sessions in Patient, Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) from September 2024.
The programme is open to staff and public contributors involved in health and care research, regardless of their role or the organisation they work for. The sessions will offer participants the opportunity to learn how to do PPIE and participation activities effectively within research. There is no requirement to have any previous experience within PPIE.
We are pleased to welcome Isobel Corby of Haref Network Connected Voices to lead the first session, Cultural Competency Training (Newcastle focus).
This session will help you to:
- Explore ‘what do we mean by culture?’
- Understand the diverse and intersecting characteristics of local communities
- Develop skills to identify barriers to accessing services
- Recognise good practice
- Feel more confident in working with different communities
Delivery
- This is a 3-hour session delivered face-to-face
- The session is informed by the local Connected Voice I Haref Network
- They provide a resource page with information to follow up on and a questionnaire to help take the learning from the session and put it into practice.
- There is an evaluation that you will need to complete four weeks after the session in order to fully participate and receive your certificate of attendance.
- They aim to make this more than just the 3 hours session and provide information on best practice, current research, and opportunities to join a network of allies.

*Please note there are only 18 spaces available for this session*
