Join us for the next session in our NHRP Academy: Know Your Funder series, where we spotlight the AMS CL starter grant.
Join us for an informative webinar introducing the Academy of Medical Sciences’ Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers. This session will walk prospective applicants through the scheme, which offers up to £30,000 to support research‑active Clinical Lecturers in generating preliminary data and strengthening future fellowship or grant applications. We’ll cover eligibility, what the funding can be used for, key dates, and tips for developing a strong proposal. Whether you’re new to the scheme or preparing to apply in the next round, this webinar will help you understand how Starter Grants can support your early research career.
This session will be hosted by Sophie Hambleton.
Sophie Hambleton is Professor of Paediatrics and Immunology, Deputy Dean of the NU Translational and Clinical Research Institute and an honorary consultant in Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Newcastle’s GNCH, where she also completed her clinical training after doctoral and postdoctoral research training at Oxford and Columbia University respectively. She was elected to fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2020 in recognition of her ongoing research on the molecular mechanisms of inborn errors of immunity, which continues alongside clinical trial work focused on improving outcomes from stem cell transplantation. Having acted as AMS Regional and Springboard Champion, Sophie is currently a member of the review panel for AMS Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers as well as the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship Panel College. She has previously participated in a range of funder panels for the MRC, Wellcome and the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust so brings a wealth of experience in grantsmanship and how to navigate the clinical academic funding landscape.
