Join us for an introduction to ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor IDs), the benefits of ORCID IDs to researchers, how to register for an ORCID ID, how to link your ORCID ID on MyImpact, and how to fill in your ORCID profile. Additionally, the session will detail how to make the most of having an ORCID ID (for example, by linking Scopus and ORCID), and further resources.
In order to submit an NIHR application, applicants (excluding public co-applicants) are required to provide an ORCID. This is a free, unique, user identification number used by NIHR and other health research funders.
Please ensure that your ORCID profile is complete and up to date. It will be used as your CV by the NIHR and by the assessors of your application when considering your employment, previous experience and qualifications. We may also use your ORCID profile to confirm your eligibility for the funding opportunity.
Your ORCID profile will also be used by the reviewers of your application as the source for your publication record. If you have any research outputs that you want the assessors of your application to be aware of, you must add them to your ORCID profile.
Please set the visibility of your ORCID account to ‘everyone’. This will allow NIHR and reviewers to access the information.
The session will be lead by Daniel Hinds who is the university’s Research Integrity Project Officer, and is part of the Research Policy Intelligence and Ethics Team. The main objectives of the Research Integrity Project are: the promotion of ORCID, induction mapping, research integrity training, and the responsible use of research metrics. Daniel has previously worked as an Executive Support Administrator in the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences and in the History, Classics and Archaeology School Office. He has a BA Honours degree in English Literature (First Class) and an MA in English Literature 1500-1900 (Distinction) from Newcastle University, for which he won the School Excellence Scholarship and the School Bursary Award. He is also a widely published and award-winning writer; his debut poetry collection was published in 2025, and his poems have appeared in various magazines, newspapers, and anthologies, been broadcast on the BBC, and performed and displayed as part of theatrical productions.
