NHRP Academy Fellows Forum | Culturally Competent Research Framework

Date and time

Event date: Monday, 23 Feb 2026
Time: 10:00-11:00
Location: Online

Join us for  NHRP Academy Fellows Forum on the CCRF Toolkit  which is a practical, step‑by‑step guide designed to help researchers plan, design, conduct, and report research in ways that embed cultural competence throughout the entire research lifecycle. Co‑developed with researchers, policymakers, community leaders, interpreters, and translators, it offers an accessible framework to promote inclusivity, equity, and meaningful community involvement—especially when working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Grounded in theory and supported by real-world tools, the toolkit provides a clear process to help users integrate culturally competent approaches into everyday research practice. It is designed to be used alongside the CCRF worksheet.

The toolkit is intended for anyone involved at any stage of the research cycle—from shaping research questions to recruiting participants, analysing data, and disseminating findings. It supports researchers across universities, research centres, health and care organisations, and public or policy sectors, including charities and local authorities. Whether you’re new to culturally competent research or looking to deepen your practice, the toolkit provides adaptable guidance for all experience levels.

The toolkit helps users:

  • Plan, deliver, and report culturally competent research
  • Apply consistent principles across every stage of the research process
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders and communities
  • Measure and demonstrate progress toward culturally inclusive practice

The session will be hosted by:

Anna is a Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy and Health- and Medicines- Inequality. She is the Director for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Director of Education, at Newcastle School of Pharmacy and NIHR Newcastle Patient Safety Research Collaboration (PSRC).
