NHIP Advanced Therapies Satellite seminar | Bioprinting and Biofabrication for Complex In Vitro Models with Professor Kenny Dalgarno
We are pleased to welcome Professor Kenny Dalgarno to deliver our next Advanced Therapies Satellite seminar. Professor Dalgarno holds the position of Sir James Woodeson Professor of Manufacturing Engineering at Newcastle University. He has been researching the use of 3D printing and additive manufacture for biomedical applications for over 20 years, with an increasing focus over the past decade on bioprinting and biofabrication for regenerative medicine and disease modelling. He is also CSO of Jetbio, a new bioprinting spin-out company from Newcastle University.
The need for better in vitro models for disease modelling and drug testing is well recognised, and limitations in animal models and some current in vitro models have long been recognised. Emerging bioprinting and biofabrication processes offer techniques which may be used to develop more realistic in vitro models using processes which are amenable to high throughput rates.
This talk will introduce the technologies and outline the opportunities and challenges that they bring.
