About us
In April 2020, Newcastle Health Research Partnership was launched, joining a network of centres of research and education excellence in England and around the world.
Newcastle Health Research Partnership aims to address health inequalities, improve population health and generate economic growth.
As a designated Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC), we do this by cultivating cross-partner collaboration in health and care research, innovation, education and training. This includes brokering new research and education activities as well as facilitating streamlined joint-working arrangements.

What is an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC)?
AHSCs are designated by NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Research.
An AHSC is a partnership of organisations that can translate research and innovation into patient and population benefit. Newcastle Health Research Partnership is one of only eight AHSCs across England.
NHSE/NIHR designation is awarded following an open competition that runs every five years and involves a rigorous international-panel assessment of partnerships’ health research, health education and clinical care, along with their proposed visions for working collaboratively to translate research and innovation across the local and wider ecosystem.
